4Runner
Fans of the Toyota 4Runner have been waiting a long time for its redesign – and that wait is finally over. The sixth-generation 4Runner begins with new powertrains (the standard i-FORCE turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain), debuting trim levels, and the ultra-durable TNGA-F global truck platform (also used by the Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra). The 4Runner’s optional three-row layout is even more valuable now that the Land Cruiser is made with just two rows. Tumble seats in the middle row provide flexible seating configurations and maximize available cargo space, making the new 4Runner as versatile as it is rugged. Of course, it's been refreshed in appearance as well, with a design inspired by Baja desert racing, with high clearance, big tires, and a lean frame.
This long-awaited redesign also introduces the Trailhunter trim, which Toyota labels an “overlanding rig” thanks to its extra-robust features including components from leading off-roading manufacturers like ARB, Old Man Emu, and Rigid Industries (see the Standard Equipment by Trim section for details). In addition to the Trailhunter, the ‘25 4Runner gets the Platinum trim for the first time. Other notable changes for the 2025 model year include an available 14-inch infotainment touchscreen and a now-standard power rear window.

The 4Runner lineup has expanded to nine trims with this redesign: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. The standard powertrain is Toyota’s i-FORCE turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which produces 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque. The available upgrade is the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, which adds a 48-hp electric motor and 288-volt Ni-MH battery to the mechanical array. It’s offered for the TRD Off-Road and Limited, and standard on the TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and Platinum. The total output for this hybrid system is 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, with up to 6,000 pounds of towing capacity.
Toyota offers three drivelines for the all-new 4Runner: rear-wheel drive (RWD), part-time four-wheel drive (4WD), and full-time 4WD. The SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, and Limited can be had with standard RWD or available part-time 4WD, while the TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium get part-time 4WD. Full-time 4WD is exclusive to the Platinum trim.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is installed on every 2025 4Runner. This driver-assist suite consists of automatic high beams, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and proactive driving assist. Front cross-traffic alert comes standard as well, along with a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer merge warning, trailer sway control, and traffic jam assist.
The Limited and above add front/rear parking assist with automatic braking and pedestrian detection; however, this feature is not present on the TRD Off-Road Premium i-FORCE MAX. The final safety distinction is an upgraded camera. While the TRD Sport Premium, Limited, Limited i-FORCE MAX, and Platinum have a panoramic view monitor, the TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Off-Road Premium i-FORCE MAX, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter are equipped with a multi-terrain monitor.

These higher trims also receive a 1-year subscription to Toyota’s Drive Connect service, which optimizes onboard navigation, among other things.
