Trim Levels, Powertrain, and Fuel Economy
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross is a five-passenger subcompact crossover offered in three trim choices: L, LE, and XLE. The powertrain pairs a 169-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available. As far as fuel economy, FWD models achieve an EPA-rated 31 mpg around town and 33 mpg on the open road; with AWD, they’ll give you 29 city/32 highway. The ’23 Corolla Cross can tow up to 1,500 pounds – enough to pull a small trailer or boat to your favorite outdoor destination.
Standard and Available Amenities
Toyota stocks the ’23 Corolla Cross with a nice band of premium features. The L is the most basic, but it does get some conveniences such as auto-off LED headlights, heated side mirrors, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a pair of USB-C charging ports, a crisp 4.2-inch gauge cluster, and a second-row bench seat with a helpful 60/40-split. The LE is upgraded with proximity keyless entry, LED headlights with auto-on, a wireless phone charger, illuminated vanity mirrors, single-zone automatic climate control, side mirrors with blind-spot and turn-signal indicators, a rear window wiper, rear privacy glass, front door handles with touch sensor lock and unlock, push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and two more USB-C charging ports.
The XLE, of course, gets the most features, with full LED exterior lighting fixtures, a more deluxe gauge cluster with a digital 7-inch display, a leather-wrapped shift knob, ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an illuminated glovebox, synthetic-leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a folding rear-seat center armrest with cupholders, and a cargo-area tonneau cover. On top of that, its automatic climate control system gains an extra zone, and its front seats are heated.
Advanced Safety Systems
The Corolla Cross is packed with protection through the latest version of Toyota Safety Sense (3.0), the automaker’s system of advanced driver-aid technologies. This state-of-the-art bundle includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid also comes with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, hill start assist, safe exit assist, and a rear seat reminder.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All three Corolla Cross trims get an updated multimedia system in 2023, with an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system’s returning features are SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a six-speaker sound system. The LE and XLE can be ordered with a premium nine-speaker JBL audio system. Toyota also includes trial subscriptions for all trims to various connected services, such as Service Connect, Remote Connect, Safety Connect, and Wi-Fi Connect. For even greater convenience, the more advanced Drive Connect service is available via paid subscription to provide Cloud Navigation with Google Points-of-Interest, Intelligent Assistant voice recognition, and Destination Assist.
