2025 Toyota RAV4 Hero

The Toyota RAV4 began model year 2025 after topping last year’s sales charts as America’s favorite non-truck vehicle. This success is due to a winning combination of versatility, value, and efficiency across the model’s three-decade history in the U.S. This fifth-generation edition combines everyday practicality with modern amenities, offering seating for five and flexible cargo space.

The RAV4's design, highlighted by sharp angles and chiseled body lines, draws inspiration from Toyota's truck lineup while retaining compact crossover functionality. For 2025, Toyota has streamlined the RAV4 lineup, focusing on four trims while discontinuing the Adventure and TRD Off-Road grades. Toyota also makes the gas-electric RAV4 Hybrid and the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid (formerly known as the RAV4 Prime), both of which we cover separately.

Trims and Powertrains

The 2025 RAV4 pleases its many fans with a choice of four trim packages: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, and Limited. They all get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 203 horsepower. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on all trims, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional. An eight-speed automatic transmission handles the gear changes across the range.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy for FWD RAV4s ranges from 27 mpg in city driving to 35 mpg on the highway. All-wheel-drive versions deliver 25 to 27 mpg around town and 33 to 34 mpg during open road travel, varying by trim. The RAV4 can tow up to 1,500 pounds when it’s properly equipped. Cargo capacity measures 69.8 cubic feet with rear seats folded or up to 37.6 cubic feet behind the back row.

Standard Features and Major Optional Packages

The essentials-focused LE comes equipped with cloth-trimmed seats, manual climate control, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlights, rear privacy glass, and power side-view mirrors. It also gets a 7-inch driver information display, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, remote keyless entry, three USB ports, and 17-inch steel wheels with covers. The XLE offers a great balance of affordability and extra features with dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, an eight-way power driver’s seat, proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, heated power mirrors with turn signals, roof rails, a cargo-area cover, variable intermittent wipers, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The optional Weather Package will add a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and rain-sensing wipers, while the available XLE Convenience Package brings a power liftgate and moonroof.

The XLE Premium builds on the XLE with Convenience Package features, plus SofTex leatherette upholstery, LED fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, soft-touch interior materials, and 19-inch alloys. The available XLE Premium Weather Package adds heat to the steering wheel and front seats, a driver’s memory system, and rain-sensing windshield wipers with a de-icing feature.

The top-tier Limited goes beyond the XLE Premium with standard heated and ventilated front seats, a four-way power front passenger seat, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, ambient cabin lighting, and unique exterior and interior treatments. The options offered for the Limited include the Weather Package (a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, and rain-sensing windshield wipers with de-icer), the Advanced Technology Package (a foot-activated power liftgate, enhanced proximity keyless entry, surround-view camera system, and wireless device charging), and a panoramic glass roof with a front power moonroof.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 comes standard on every 2025 RAV4, incorporating a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is optional on the LE and standard on the higher trims. The Limited adds front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, which is an option for the XLE Premium. All trims get a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, Smart Stop Technology (to minimize unintended acceleration), and a rearview monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Most 2025 RAV4 trims are given an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, although a 10.5-inch touchscreen comes standard on Limited and is optional for the XLE Premium. Both systems support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth. A six-speaker audio setup is standard, with the Limited upgrading to an 11-speaker JBL premium system (available on the XLE Premium). All trims have Wi-Fi hotspot capability and access to Toyota Connected Services for Cloud Navigation, emergency assistance, and remote functions.
