2021 Toyota Prius Prime for Sale in Warwick, RI
The Toyota Prius Prime, the plug-in version of the world’s most recognizable hybrid, is back for 2021. Unlike its traditional hybrid counterpart, the Toyota Prius Prime can be charged from an external power source, such as a home outlet. For the new model year, every trim now comes with road sign recognition and lane tracing assist, and Android Auto is included on the base-level trim for the first time ever.
Trims and Powertrain
The front-wheel-drive 2021 Prius Prime, which comes in LE, XLE, and Limited trim levels, is driven by the combination of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor system ( total system output: 121 hp). This gas-electric powertrain is joined to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT). Charge time for the 2021 Prius Prime is 5.5 hours with the standard outlet and 2 hours with the available 240-volt outlet.
Efficiency and Regenerative Braking
The 2021 Toyota Prius Prime is capable of driving 25 all-electric miles and returns an EPA-estimated 55 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway in hybrid mode. Its total driving range is estimated at 641 miles, and it achieves 133 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent) from a full charge. It also has a regenerative braking function where otherwise electricity created by the braking process is routed to the battery, adding to its charge. Regenerative braking essentially seizes what would be wasted energy and stores it in the battery to extend electric range.
Comfort and Convenience
The base LE comes with automatic-off quad-LED headlights, LED taillights, heated side mirrors, fabric-trimmed heated front seats, smart-flow climate control, a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, Toyota’s Smart Key System (on the driver’s door), push-button start, a SofTex-trimmed-leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a rearview camera. The XLE yields automatic on/off quad-beam LED headlights, a smart-charging cable lock, Predictive Efficient Drive (helps you optimize efficiency while driving), Toyota’s Smart Key System on the other doors, SofTex-trimmed heated front seats, and a wireless device charger. The Limited gets LED fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, a head-up display, a heated SofTex-trimmed steering wheel, and a cargo area cover.
Active Safety Features
Each of the 2021 Toyota Prius Prime trims receives the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of active safety features. This bundles a pre-collision system with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic high beams, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist, and lane tracing assist. The Limited gets a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Intelligent Park Assist.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The LE has an infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, a USB media port, and two USB charge ports. The XLE upgrades to an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice recognition, navigation, a premium six-speaker audio system, and HD radio. The Limited is loaded with a premium ten-speaker JBL audio system. Both the XLE and Limited lose Android Auto connectivity.
