2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime for Sale in Warwick, RI
The RAV4 family has grown again, with the big news that the plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version has joined the lineup. The 2021 RAV4 Prime uses the same nomenclature as the plug-in Prius, the Prius Prime, and offers a new way of driving this long-successful compact SUV. Many fans of the RAV4 have wanted this added dimension of running on all-electric power first before the ever-ready gasoline engine takes over. This is surely a unique RAV4: its electric motors are more powerful than a conventional (non-PHEV) gas-electric hybrid’s, resulting in great power and torque that make it truly fun to drive. In fact, the only Toyota with a faster 0-to-60 time (5.7 seconds) is the GR Supra. Its appearance is unique, too, with a diamond-patterned grille and a special front spoiler, with exterior LED accent lights available to set it apart as well.
Powertrain and System Specs
The 2021 RAV4 Prime’s gas-electric powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter gasoline-burning engine and a trio of electric motors; the total system horsepower is a most agreeable 302. The projected range of 42 all-electric miles is outstanding, especially for a crossover or SUV, as is its rating of 94 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent). Running on gas alone, it’s EPA rated for 40 mpg around town and 36 mpg on the open highway.
Trims and Standard Features
The trim lineup is a simplified pair, the SE and the XSE. The nicely appointed SE gets heated side mirrors, heated front seats, automatic high beams, LED lights (headlights and taillights), automatic climate control with two zones, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob, a power liftgate, and roof rails. The available Weather and Moonroof Package will add, of course, a moonroof, plus rain-sensing windshield wipers with de-icers, a heated steering wheel, and heated rear outboard seats. Its infotainment system is packed with good features: an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, five USB ports (one media and 4 charge ports), six speakers, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
The XSE is loaded, getting the moonroof as well as a two-tone exterior scheme, interior ambient lighting, vertical exterior LED accent lights, paddle shifters, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. This trim offers an add-on Weather Package (heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, and rain-sensing/de-icing wipers) and a Premium Package that bundles a panoramic roof, hands-free liftgate, adaptive headlights, a head-up display (10-inch diagonal), a fast battery charger, ventilated front seats, and a digital rearview mirror that provides visibility behind even when the cargo area is full to the brim. Its infotainment system has some upgrades, including a 9-inch touchscreen and premium JBL Audio; navigation is available. Some of these premium options, such as the head-up display, aren’t available on the regular RAV4 Hybrid, so the RAV4 Prime can supply a more luxurious driving experience.
Active Safety Technology
Just like every other Toyota vehicle, the 2021 RAV4 Prime is packed with state-of-the-art driver-assist features. Standard on the SE are adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, lane keep assist, and road sign assist. The XSE also gets a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. Buyers who opt for the Premium Package will get front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking and a 360-degree monitor.
