2025 Toyota Prius

The 2025 Toyota Prius continues the model’s legacy as an efficiency leader and hybrid pioneer, offering drivers up to 57 combined mpg and the option of all-wheel drive (AWD) on every trim level. The front-wheel-drive (FWD) trims reach 194 combined horsepower and go from 0 to 60 in 7.2 seconds; the AWD does the same in 7 seconds flat with 196 combined horsepower. That’s not sports-car territory, but it’s an improvement for the Prius and it’s above average for the segment.

The main change for the 2025 Prius is that the Nightshade Edition has joined the lineup, standing out with black interior accents, seats upholstered in black SofTex, and carbon-fiber trim, plus black exterior badging. It’s also the only trim that’s eligible for the elegant Karashi gold paint color.

Like every new 2025 Toyota, the Prius comes with Toyota’s standard ToyotaCare no-cost maintenance plan, which covers regular factory-scheduled maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, and multipoint inspections) for two years or 25,000 miles, plus two years of 24-hour roadside assistance for unlimited miles.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2025 Prius has four trims to choose from: LE, XLE, Limited, and the all-new Nightshade Edition. The front-wheel-drive (FWD) versions get a 2-liter, four-cylinder engine coupled with a lithium-ion battery-powered electric motor; the combined output is 194 horsepower. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission completes this hybrid powertrain. The LE leads the lineup in fuel economy with an EPA-estimated 57 mpg around town and 56 mpg on the highway, while the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade Edition drop to 52 mpg for both city and highway.

With the optional all-wheel drivetrain (AWD), a second electric motor is added to the rear axle, increasing net horsepower output to 196. The LE is again the most efficient with AWD, returning 53 mpg city and 54 mpg highway, while the three higher trims achieve 49 city/50 highway.

Standard Equipment

The LE receives fabric upholstery, six-way adjustable front seats, a SofTex-trimmed steering wheel, a 7-inch multi-informational LCD gauge display, the Smart Key System on the driver door with remote keyless entry and push-button start, Bi-LED projector headlights with auto-off, heated power side mirrors, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights and stop lights, an active grille shutter, six USB-C ports (two front, two rear, and two in the center console), 60/40-split fold-down rear seats, a cargo-area tonneau cover, and 17-inch alloy wheels with covers.

The XLE is upgraded with SofTex upholstery, heated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, the Smart Key System on both front doors, wireless smartphone charging, auto-on/off headlights, a rear-seat armrest with cup holders, and 19-inch alloy wheels. This trim’s options include Digital Key, which enables a smartphone to be used as a key (part of Toyota’s subscription-based Connected Services suite) and a fixed glass roof.

The Limited comes standard with the fixed-glass roof and Digital Key, as well as ventilated front seats, two-position memory for the driver’s seat, and a power liftgate. A digital rearview mirror and heated rear seats are available. While the Nightshade Edition does not get the ventilated front seats or driver’s-seat memory, it’s distinguished by trim-exclusive black SofTex upholstery with gray stitching, carbon-fiber dashboard detailing, black interior accents, unique black exterior badging, and black-finished 19-inch alloy wheels. The fixed-glass roof and Digital Key capabilities are optional upgrades.

Safety

All 2025 Prius trims come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, including a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and proactive driving assist. Every Prius also has safe exit alert, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, an integrated backup camera display, rear seat reminder, a vehicle proximity notification system, an engine immobilizer, hill start assist control, enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, and anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, and SmartStop Technology. The top three trims are upgraded with front and rear parking assist with automatic braking (optional for the LE). The Limited is eligible for the Limited Premium Package, which includes advanced park and a panoramic view monitor with 360-degree overhead views.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The LE has an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free phone capabilities, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. The Limited is enhanced with a 12.3-inch touchscreen (an optional upgrade on the XLE and Nightshade), a high-end JBL audio system with eight speakers and an amplifier, and a 12-month trial subscription to Drive Connect. Subscription-based access to Toyota’s Connected Services is available on all trims.
