Having debuted last year, the spacious and comfortable Toyota Grand Highlander made its return for 2025 with a new and more affordable base trim, the LE. That means the three-row SUV is within the budget parameters of even more drivers. If you liked the original Highlander, the Grand Highlander builds on everything that made it great, but with more space to stretch out. The third row, for example, offers nearly 34 inches of legroom, about 20 percent more than the regular Highlander.
The Grand Highlander is a solid choice for families or anyone who wants a comfortable and flexible ride. It can seat up to eight people or provide almost 100 cubic feet of cargo space when the second and third rows aren’t being used for passengers. Its attractive look is dominated by Toyota’s signature “hammerhead” grille, styled headlights, and sculpted body panels. Note that there’s also a gas-electric Grand Highlander Hybrid, which we cover on a separate page.

The 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander comes in four trim packages: LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. They all have a 265-horsepower 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The LE, XLE, and Limited come with standard front-wheel drive (FWD); all-wheel drive (AWD) is an option on those trims and standard on the Platinum.
The Grand Highlander’s EPA-estimated fuel economy varies with the trim and drivetrain combination, ranging from 20 to 21 mpg in the city to 26 to 28 mpg on the highway. There’s plenty of room to bring your stuff, as the designated cargo area spans 20.6 cubic feet, which jumps to 57.9 cubic feet with the last row folded. With the second and third rows both folded, there’s 97.5 cubic feet of storage space behind the front seats. The Grand Highlander can also tow up to 5,000 pounds when it’s properly equipped.
The LE is a straightforward base trim with eight-person seating via a second-row bench seat. Its other amenities consist of proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, an eight-way power driver’s seat, tilt-and-telescopic steering, automatic three-zone climate control (with second-row controls and rear vents), fabric upholstery in the first and second rows, heated power exterior mirrors, a power liftgate, LED exterior lighting, a 7-inch driver information screen, a windshield wiper de-icer, roof rails, rear privacy glass, an overhead console, seven USB-C ports, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The XLE swaps out the middle-row bench for a pair of captain’s chairs, although the eight-passenger configuration can be opted for. On this trim you’ll also find SofTex leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a heated ten-way power driver’s seat and heated eight-way power passenger seat, digital key, second-row sunshades, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a wireless device charge pad.
The Limited’s features build with first- and second-row leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, heated and ventilated front seats, a driver’s memory system, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, ambient interior lighting, a hands-free power liftgate, a 120-volt outlet, LED fog lights, exterior and interior design accents specific to this trim, windshield wipers with rain-sensing technology, power-folding exterior mirrors, LED daytime running lights, and 20-inch alloy wheels. A power panoramic moonroof is available on the XLE and Limited. Reaching the top of the trim range, the Platinum seats seven passengers and comes with the power panoramic moonroof as standard, a head-up display, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, heated and ventilated second-row seats, and a digital rearview mirror.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is installed on all four ‘25 Grand Highlander trims. This suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies consists of adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-tracing assist, lane departure alert with steering assist, Proactive Driving Assist (additional steering and braking aid), automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Every trim also gets rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. The Limited and Platinum are improved with front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, while traffic jam assist is featured solely on the Platinum. A surround-view monitor is optional with the Limited and standard on the Platinum. Every Grand Highlander is equipped with Smart Stop Technology (to manage accidental acceleration), anti-lock brakes, eight airbags, stability and traction control, hill start assist, and a rearview camera with dynamic guides.
All trims showcase a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment hub with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and access to Toyota Connected Services for Wi-Fi hotspot capability, emergency support, cloud-based navigation, and other remote features. A six-speaker audio system is installed in the LE and XLE, while an 11-speaker JBL setup raises the sound stakes in the Limited and Platinum.
