The 4Runner is about variety, with these seven trims to choose from: SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter V6 engine rated for 270 horsepower and 278 pounds-feet of torque; a 5-speed automatic transmission completes the powertrain. The available drivetrains consist of rear-wheel, part-time four-wheel, or full-time four-wheel. A properly equipped 4Runner can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds, which exceeds the towing capacity of both the Jeep Wrangler and the Chevy Blazer. All 4Runner trims have the same EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, regardless of drivetrain.
The SR5 has roof rails, a skid plate (protecting the engine and front suspension), remote keyless entry, two 12V power outlets (one in front and one in cargo area), three USB ports, one 120V AC power outlet (in cargo area), a leather-trimmed tilt/telescoping steering wheel, automatic air conditioning with air filter and second-row vents, the Smart Key system with push-button start, heated power exterior mirrors, aerodynamic intermittent windshield wipers, an overhead console with a holder for sunglasses, 17-inch 6-spoke alloy wheels, a power window (with auto up/down) in the tailgate, 10 cup holders, and LED headlights, taillights and fog lights. Its seating situation consists of cloth upholstery, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, a 4-way manually adjustable front passenger’s bench, and a reclining fold-flat second-row bench (40/20/40 split). A third row of seating is optional (another pair of cup holders will be added as well).
The TRD Sport gets an upgraded suspension, SofTex upholstery, a TRD shift knob and floor mats, and trim-specific exterior styling that includes a color-keyed TRD hood scoop, and 20-inch split 6-spoke alloy wheels. There’s an option to install automatic running boards and the Technology Package, which contains a HomeLink universal transceiver and a panoramic view monitor. The SR5 Premium adds to the SR5’s equipment with heated front seats, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated power outside mirrors with built-in turn indicators, a HomeLink universal transceiver, mudguards, and a net in the cargo area to hold accessories. The optional Premium Package will add the panoramic view monitor and SofTex seats.
The TRD Off-Road adds to the features of the SR5 with standard four-wheel drive, a locking rear differential, a skid plate for the transfer case, a multi-terrain drive mode and crawl control (with switches for both located on the overhead console), and 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels with black accents. It’s eligible for the optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. The TRD Off-Road Premium presents the best of both worlds, combining the capability of the TRD Off-Road with the plush features of the SR5 Premium. The available Off-Road Premium Plus Package will add a multi-terrain monitor.
The Limited has chrome door handles with touch-sensor lock/unlock, dual-zone automatic climate control with air filter, perforated leather-trimmed seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a power tilt/slide moonroof with sunshade, and 20-inch split 6-spoke alloy wheels. The TRD Pro has the premium features of the TRD Off-Road, plus a multi-terrain monitor, a TRD Pro-stamped front aluminum skid plate, Fox high-performance shocks with rear remote reservoirs, TRD-tuned front springs, a TRD roof rack, and 17-inch matte-black TRD alloy wheels.
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner has the Safety Sense P (TSS-P) suite of driver-assist features installed, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview camera, and forward collision warning. The Limited adds front and rear parking sensors and a surround-view monitor.
All 2024 4Runners have an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice recognition capability, hands-free phone use and music streaming through Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Navigation is added at the SR5 Premium level, while the TRD Off-Road and above also get HD Radio. All trims have a sound system with eight speakers except for the Limited, which is upgraded with a 15-speaker JBL unit with an amplifier and subwoofer.
