There are seven grades of the 2023 Tundra: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. Two four-door body styles are available: Double Cab and CrewMax. The Double Cab pairs with either a 6.5-foot or an 8.1-ft. bed, while the CrewMax versions get a 5.5-ft. or 6.5-ft. bed. The SR, SR5, and Limited are made with both body styles; the CrewMax SR5 and Limited can be ordered with the 6.5-ft. bed but the SR CrewMax SR pairs with the 5.5-ft. bed only. Meanwhile, the Double Cab Limited is only offered with the 6.5-ft. bed, whereas the Double Cab SR and SR5 are eligible for the 6.5-ft. or 8.1-ft. bed. The Platinum and 1794 Edition are built strictly as CrewMax and pair with either the 5.5-ft. or 6.5-ft. bed. Finally, the TRD Pro and Capstone are only made with the CrewMax and 5.5-ft. bed combination.
The entry-level SR is supplied with a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which produces 358 hp and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. The SR5, Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition get a more potent 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 making 389 hp and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. The TRD Pro and Capstone have a hybrid system that mates the 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor to generate 437 hp and 583 lb.-ft. of torque. All of these powerplants use a 10-speed automatic transmission, and while rear-wheel drive is the default in most trims, four-wheel drive (which is standard in the TRD Pro and Capstone) is available. Toyota claims that the maximum towing capacity of the ‘23 Tundra is 12,000 pounds, and that its maximum payload is 1,940 lb.
Toyota decks out the ‘23 Tundra with the latest and greatest equipment. The SR comes with LED exterior lighting elements, heated side mirrors, front door handles with touch-sensor lock and unlock (Smart Key), 18-inch wheels, push-button start, single-zone automatic climate control, a 12-volt power outlet, a power rear window, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a rear under-seat storage compartment with removable and adjustable partitions. The available SR Tow Package will stock a Class IV tow hitch receiver and 7-pin wiring harness. The SR5 gains LED fog lights, a deck rail system with four adjustable tie-down cleats, and fixed cargo bed tie-down points. This trim is eligible for the new SX Appearance Package, which omits the door badges for a minimalist aesthetic and provides dark-gray wheels, body-colored exterior accents, a black 4×4 badge for the 4WD models, and a blacked-out interior. The package is available with four exterior colors: White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic, and Midnight Black Metallic.
The Limited gets 20-inch wheels, auto-dimming and reverse-gear tilt-down side mirrors with turn-signal and blind-spot indicators, synthetic-leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, position memory for the driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a HomeLink universal garage door opener. The TRD Off-Road Package will add 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, TRD Off-Road decals, an off-road suspension with Bilstein shocks, skid plates, mudguards, and TRD interior accents. The Platinum adds premium auto-leveling headlights, trailer backup assist, rain-sensing wipers, a bed-mounted 120-volt power outlet, LED bed lights, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic moonroof, leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a digital rearview mirror, a heated and power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, heated and ventilated rear seats, and rear door sunshades.
The 1794 Edition is similar to the Platinum; however, it has chrome exterior accents and luxurious wood-grain interior trim. The trail-ready TRD Pro shows off a “TOYOTA” stamped grille, a TRD front skid plate, FOX internal bypass shocks, 18-inch BBS wheels, TRD Pro decals and badges, mudguards, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, an off-road suspension with a 1.1-inch lift, a TRD Pro front stabilizer bar, a multi-terrain monitor (with selectable front, side, and rear camera views), and sporty red accents. The Capstone is more like the Platinum, but it’s loaded with 22-inch wheels, power running boards, a “CAPSTONE” door badge, a 10-inch head-up display, semi-aniline leather upholstery with contrast stitching, and unique floor mats. A number of those high-level amenities are available for the lower-level trims via optional packages.
The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite of active safety features is standard in the ‘23 Tundra. It features a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. At the Limited level, front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and trailer merge warning are added. The Platinum and Capstone also receive a panoramic view monitor.
The base infotainment setup (found in the SR and SR5) consists of an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a six-speaker sound system. The Limited and higher trims advance to a 14-inch touchscreen, which is optional for the SR5. The Platinum, TRD Pro, and Capstone each get a top-shelf 12-speaker JBL audio system, which is available on the Limited.
