Trims and Performance
The 2022 Toyota Sienna can seat up to eight and is offered in LE, XLE, XSE, Woodland Edition, Limited, and Platinum trim levels. Each gets a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with either two or three electric motors (two with FWD and three with AWD) and an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT). The system’s output is 245 horsepower. The Woodland Edition has standard AWD, which is available on the other trims (they come standard with FWD). According to EPA estimates, the FWD Siennas return 36 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway; with AWD, the city rating goes down to 35 mpg.
Standard Features by Trim
The base LE can carry up to eight passengers and comes with lots of sought-after features. Among the highlights are LED headlights, heated side mirrors with blind-spot indicators, power-sliding rear doors, rear privacy glass, keyless entry, push-button start, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It’s set up for moving a lot of passengers in comfort, thanks to tri-zone automatic climate control, six USB charging ports, a 12-volt DC power outlet, a USB media port, 18 cup and bottle holders, a second-row bench seat with a stowable center seat, and a one-touch power 60/40-split third-row seat. The XLE adds long-slide second-row captain’s chairs, which reduce seating to seven (the bench seat is available to put capacity back to eight). The XLE also gets LED fog lights, hands-free sliding side doors, a power liftgate, a moonroof, advanced keyless entry (a.k.a. Smart Key, a system that lets you lock or unlock the doors without taking the key fob out of your pocket), quad-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power front passenger’s seat, simulated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a HomeLink universal garage door opener.
The XSE’s equipment mostly reflects that of the XLE, but it’s only offered with the captain’s chairs. It also gets black exterior trim, a mesh grille, an in-car PA system, and sport front seats. As mentioned, the Woodland Edition is the most adventure-ready trim, with its roof-rail cross bars, tow hitch receiver and wiring harness with a 4-pin connector, wireless phone charger, and 120-volt power outlet. The 120-volt power outlet isn’t standard in the Limited, but it is available. This trim also receives premium side mirrors (power-folding, auto-dimming, and reverse-gear tilt-down capable), chrome exterior accents, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, position memory for the driver’s seat and side mirrors, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a 7-inch multi-information display, and manual second- and third-row sunshades. The range-topping Platinum issues signature LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated captain’s chairs, a heated steering wheel, and a 10-inch head-up display.
Advanced Safety Technology
Every trim is furnished with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of class-exclusive active driver aids, which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, and road sign assist. A blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert with reverse automatic braking are standard as well. The XLE and above are upgraded with front and rear parking sensors, while a surround-view monitor is added to the Platinum.
For staying in touch and entertained, the standard infotainment system bundles a 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a sound system with six speakers. The XLE and XSE add two speakers, while the Woodland Edition and above get navigation and a top-rated 12-speaker JBL sound system.
Some trim-specific upgrade packages are offered for the ’22 Sienna. The LE Plus Package supplies an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, wireless charging, a moonroof, black roof rails, and an eight-speaker sound system. The XLE and XSE Plus packages both contain the wireless charger, moonroof, and black roof rails, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system. Last, the Entertainment Package for the Woodland Edition, Limited, and Platinum trims equips the Sienna with a 1080p HD entertainment center with an 11.6-inch display, an HDMI input, a remote control, and two sets of wireless headphones.
