The ‘22 RAV4 Prime is a plug-in gas-electric hybrid that’s offered in two grade levels: SE and XSE. Their plug-in hybrid powerplant consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and a trio of electric motors that produce a system output is 302 hp. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive come standard.
According to the EPA, the RAV4 Prime achieves an estimated 40 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway regardless of the trim level and returns 94 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent). It travels up to 42 miles per charge (when plugged into a 6.6kW charger, the ‘22 RAV4 Prime can reach a full battery capacity in just 2.5 hours). The towing limit is 2,500 pounds.
Amenities By Trim
The SE presents a good slate of advanced amenities. Advanced Driving Aids
Both trims come with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, an excellent bundle of driver-assist technologies. It has a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are both standard on every RAV4 Prime.
A few packages are offered with the ‘22 RAV4 Prime. The SE qualifies for the Weather and Moonroof Package, which will supply a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a moonroof. With the Weather Package, the XSE will get the heated steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers, but if you want to dial up this trim’s appeal even further, go for the Premium Package. It will upgrade the charger to a a 6.6kW version and furnish a head-up display, navigation, a panoramic glass roof, a surround-view camera system, ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, position memory settings for the driver’s seat, power adjustments for the front passenger’s seat, a digital rearview mirror, proximity entry for all doors, a 120-volt cargo area power outlet, a hands-free liftgate, and front and rear parking sensors.
