2021 Toyota Highlander for Sale in Warwick, RI
With its three rows of comfortable seating, the 2021 Toyota Highlander can accommodate up to eight passengers. Since its debut in 2001, this full-sized crossover quickly became one of the most popular vehicles – especially with families – thanks to its tasteful blend of car-like handling and SUV-inspired utility. After a redesign just last model year, the Highlander returns with a new XSE trim level that’s differentiated by a sport-tuned suspension and more athletic styling.
Powertrain and Performance
Every 2021 Highlander has the same powertrain, a 3.5-liter V6 engine (295 hp and 263 lb.-ft. of torque) with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available on all trims. According to the EPA, FWD versions return 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, while the AWD variants get 20 city/27 highway. All trims get selectable drive modes (normal, sport, and eco) with terrain settings for snow, mud/sand, and rock/dirt.
Trims and Features
The ’21 Highlander is offered in six trim levels: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum. The L gets 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a windshield wiper de-icer, keyless entry and push-button ignition, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, tri-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, five USB ports, two 12-volt power outlets, second- and third-row 60/40 split-folding seats, and seating for eight passengers. The LE comes with LED fog lights, a height-adjustable power liftgate, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The XLE has roof rails, a moonroof, a wireless smartphone charger, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, SofTex simulated-leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, second-row captain’s chairs (this reduces seating capacity to seven), and second-row sunshades. The second-row bench seat can be added back as an option to retain eight-passenger accommodation.
The XSE yields 20-inch wheels, a mesh front grille, a sportier front bumper and low spoiler, a twin-tip exhaust, a sport-tuned suspension, and ambient interior lighting. An in-car PA system and leather upholstery are available. The Limited outfits the PA system and leather upholstery, as well as high-output LED fog lights, puddle lights, front and rear parking sensors, a hands-free liftgate, ventilated front seats, front seat memory functions, a heated steering wheel, and a 120-volt power outlet. As with the XLE, the second-row bench seat is optional in lieu of the captain’s chairs; a surround-view camera system is also included. The top-of-the-line Platinum supplies adaptive front lighting, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic moonroof, a head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror with HomeLink.
Safety and Technology
The L, LE, XLE, and XSE have an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth capability, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker audio system. The XLE and XSE are eligible for navigation, and the XSE also qualifies for the optional premium 11-speaker JBL audio system. The Limited and Platinum get the JBL audio system as standard equipment, but the Platinum also gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is optional on the Limited.
All ’21 Highlanders come with a variety of advanced active driver aids through the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ system. This includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, lane tracing assist, and road sign assist. All but the base trim get blind-spot warning with indicators built in to the exterior mirrors. The Limited and Platinum get front and rear parking sensors and the Limited is eligible for a bird’s-eye view camera with perimeter scan and a curb view feature.
