2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback
The 2020 Yaris Hatchback is truly a versatile subcompact. It’s an ideal vehicle for commuters, since it gets great gas mileage (up to 40 mph) and is loaded with plenty of advanced technology to keep its occupants connected and entertained. There’s also a surprising amount of cargo space in it for weekend escapes and other adventures. Even better, it is backed by Toyota’s reputation for dependability and long life, and it’s covered by generous warranties. This all-new Yaris Hatchback is built on the Mazda 2 platform, which provides better driving performance and more passenger space than in previous model years.
The 2020 Yaris Hatchback comes with a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that puts out 106 horsepower; it is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine is nicely responsive due to its high compression ratio (12.0:1) and direct fuel injection. It also features a Sport Mode for when you may need a bit more acceleration, like merging onto the highway from an on-ramp.
After a thoughtful redesign, all Yaris Hatchback trims come standardly equipped with 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a chrome tailpipe tip, and power-adjustable body-color side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. Other standard features, some of which are typically only available on higher trims of other cars in this class, include smart key entry with push-button start, variable intermittent windshield wipers, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, fog lights, chrome interior door handles, a first aid kit, and driver and front passenger sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors.
Standard features on all models include a 7-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice recognition, USB ports, an auxiliary port, and Bluetooth wireless technology. It also comes standard with a three-month all access trial subscription of SiriusXM radio, which includes over 150 channels. There are also integrated control switches on the steering wheel for seamless accessibility to phones and audio. The LE and XLE models are set up with a navigation system: all that it requires is an SD card, which can be purchased from any Toyota dealer. Finally, at the top of the heap, the XLE trim gets you gray or black leatherette seating surfaces, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, automatic LED headlamps, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and automatic climate control.
Although it has not yet undergone government-issued collision tests, the ’20 Yaris Hatchback has the makings of an exceptionally safe vehicle. All models come standard with a low-speed pre-collision safety system, which scans ahead for potential danger. If an imminent collision is detected, the vehicle will emit an audio and visual alert, while simultaneously activating the vehicle’s brake assist feature if the driver does not react quickly enough. Other standard advanced safety features include dynamic stability control, a traction control system, electronic brake-force distribution, an anti-lock brake system, brake override system, and six airbags.
