2020 Toyota Tacoma in RI

The Toyota Tacoma has been America’s best-selling midsized pickup for the last 14 years, and the refreshed 2020 version shows no sign of slowing down. The 2020 Toyota Tacoma blends the latest in technology, comfort, convenience, and even off-road high technology. Some of the improvements for this model year include new grille and wheel styles, a new 10-way power driver’s seat (on most trims), and the debut of the available Multi-Terrain Monitor for keeping an eye on the ground below the truck when you take it off the pavement.

Trims and Powertrains

There will be six trims available: the SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and the top-of-the-line Limited. A 2.7-liter 159 horsepower 4-cylinder engine comes standard on the lowest trims, but a V6 upgrade is available. That V6, a 278 hp 3.5-liter that makes 265-lb.-ft. of torque, comes standard on the higher trims. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but the V6 can be ordered with a 6-speed manual transmission instead. All Tacomas with the V6 engine come standard with the Tow Package, which includes a Class IV receiver hitch, a power steering cooler, transmission fluid cooler, engine oil cooler, 130-amp alternator, 4- and 7-pin connector convertor, and trailer-sway control.

Safety and Technology

Every grade of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma is packed with the latest in safety features. Toyota Safety Sense, the automaker’s excellent suite of advanced driver-assist technologies, groups crash-mitigation functions such as pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with sway warning, high-speed dynamic cruise control, and automatic high beams. A blind-spot monitor and parking assist are available as part of an optional package (or standard on higher trims). Stability control, traction control, and a full suite of air bags are found on every 2020 Tacoma.

The available Panoramic View Monitor and Multi-Terrain Monitor are standard on the Limited and TRD Pro trims and available on the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road trims. This groundbreaking (no pun intended) technology lets you keep an eye on the terrain you’re tackling and avoid obstacles by providing views underneath and all around the truck. The TRD Off-Road is especially geared for the trails with standard Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, Hill Assist Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and Crawl Control.

On the connectivity side, the Entune Audio multimedia system returns with numerous upgrades and now includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa compatibility, plus Wi-Fi Connect. The SR gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while the other trims get an 8-inch screen. A premium JBL sound system is available as an upgrade to the base system.

Passenger Comfort and Utility

The SR5 trims and up all include a new 10-way electronic power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support. Upgraded Passenger Smart Key Entry has been added to the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Limited.

The 2020 Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 pounds when properly equipped. Access Cab versions ride on a 127.4-inch wheelbase and have a 73.7-inch-long-bed. The Tacoma Double Cab is offered in two main configurations: a 127.4-inch wheelbase with a 60.5-inch bed or a 140.6-inch wheelbase with a 73.7-inch bed. LED bed lighting is available.
