2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition

Overview

The Toyota Land Cruiser has been driving on and off roads for over 60 years and has built itself a strong following, to say the least. 2020 celebrates those six-plus decades of excellence with the Heritage Edition. Toyota has successfully evolved this vehicle from a rock-conquering 4×4 to a top-of-the-line luxury vehicle that retains its original capability and can absolutely go almost anywhere. This special run of the Land Cruiser will reportedly result in just 1,200 vehicles produced, making it a truly limited edition.

The Heritage Edition will be made in two colors: Midnight Black Metallic and Blizzard Pearl, with both accented by a black front grille. It’ll also feature special retro badging honoring the vehicle’s 1958 origins, and the bronze-toned aluminum wheels feature the old-style “TOYOTA” in the center. Whether the black or pearl exterior is chosen, the interior will have black leather seating with bronze stitching; this bronze coloring also appears on the center stack, steering wheel, and various cabin trim. Under the hood, there’s a 381 horsepower 5.7-liter engine that’s paired with an 8-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). All models have full-time four-wheel drive with selectable low range. To keep the emphasis on cargo capacity, the Heritage Edition will come only as a two-row, with no option for a third row of seating as in the conventional 2020 Land Cruiser.

Safety and Technology

The Toyota Safety Sense package of crash-mitigating technologies comes standard and includes auto emergency braking, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, a blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert. All Land Cruiser Heritage Editions come with three years of Toyota Safety Connect, which is an integrated cellular-based system that works independently from the driver’s phone and provides automatic collision notification, stolen vehicle location, emergency assistance button, and GPS roadside assistance.

A 9-inch touchscreen infotainment center is the control center for the entertainment and connectivity features in the Heritage Edition. That includes premium JBL Audio with fourteen speakers, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth capability, and a Qi wireless device charging.

Passenger Comfort and Utility

The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition emphasizes comfort with front seats that are both heated and ventilated, plus a heated steering wheel. Four-zone climate control, with 28 air vents throughout the cabin, ensures that every occupant can set their own preferred temperature. In lieu of the cool box that regular Land Cruisers have in their center console, this edition has additional enclosed storage area.

With multiple skid plates and the super-tough body-on-frame construction of a classic SUV, the 2020 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition is built to meet off-pavement demands. But modern technology makes this throwback-styled version even more of a marvel. Toyota’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System hydraulically adjusts the stabilizer bars to smooth out off-road travel, and those rides through the dust are enhanced with Multi-Terrain Select, Downhill Assist Control, Hill Start Assist, CRAWL Control, and Off-Road Turn Assist. When it’s equipped with a standard Trailer Tower Package, the Heritage Edition can pull up to 8,100 pounds.
