Mechanical Features and Fuel Economy
The ’20 Corolla Hybrid is only available in the LE trim. This model is powered by a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder aluminum DOHC 16-valve engine with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence. It uses this four-cylinder gas engine and two electric motor-generators to deliver 121 horsepower and 105 lb.-ft. of torque, with the power sources seamlessly swapping duties as the system determines for the highest efficiency. This engine is paired to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) with front-wheel drive. Most remarkably, this hybrid engine gets an EPA-estimated 53 mpg city and 52 mpg highway, for a combined total rating of 52 mpg.
