The award-winning Toyota Corolla continues to make its owners smile with its 2019 model. This model year retains the most-appreciated features of the prior year, while also adding improved safety features and a distinct hatchback model. The Corolla continues to be the affordable, stylish, and safe sedan that consumers expect from Toyota, an automaker with a sound reputation for reliability and high resale value.

Trims & Mechanical Features

Out of the ’19 Corolla’s six trims, five of them (L, LE, XLE, SE, and XSE) are equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with dual variable valve timing with intelligence that delivers 132 hp and 128 lb.-ft. of torque. The sixth trim, LE Eco, features an alternative 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with Valvematic technology that yields 140 hp and 126 lb.-ft. of torque. The base engine delivers an EPA rated 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, while the LE Eco’s engine on the LE Eco ups that to an EPA-rated 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

The base L offers an array of standard features, such as an integrated backup camera, Entune Audio (featuring 6.1-inch touchscreen, a USB 2.0 port, Bluetooth capability, and more), and air conditioning with a dust and pollen filter. The LE and LE Eco models add automatic climate control heated exterior mirrors, multi-function in-key remote keyless entry system, and an option to upgrade to Entune Audio Plus (featuring 7-in. high-resolution touchscreen, Scout GPS, and Bluetooth). The XLE improves by adding heated driver and front passenger seats, push-button start, LED headlights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Besides its bold front fascia and chrome-tipped exhaust, the SE’s most notable upgrades are the addition of paddle shifters and a normal and sport driving mode selector. Finally, the luxury XSE trim is equipped with a power tilt/slide moonroof and Entune Audio Plus with upgraded navigation.

Technology and Safety

The Corolla continues to deliver award-winning safety with a NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating. The standard inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist technology suite helps to make the roads a safer place. Toyota Safety Sense adds advanced safety features, including a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. Additional standard safety features include an advanced eight airbag system and Star Safety System featuring enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brake system, brake assist, and smart stop technology.

This year’s Corolla strives to make connecting to the world easier and more fun than ever before. Entune Audio allows for hands-free advanced voice recognition, music streaming, and Siri Eyes Free to ensure that the driver can focus on the road while still staying connected. Other features of Entune Audio include a 6.1-inch touchscreen, USB 2.0 port with iPod connectivity, and six speakers. Entune Audio Plus, which comes standard on the XSE and XLE trims and is available on all models above L, improves upon the base Entune Audio by adding a larger (7-inch) high-resolution touchscreen display, Scout GPS link, and optional SiriusXM Satellite Radio with a 3-month trial. The final and most luxurious multimedia system, known as Entune Premium Audio with Integrated Navigation, adds integrated navigation and Entune App Suite, which allows access to cellular apps use through the vehicle’s touch-screen display.
