The gas-only ’19 Camry offers two excellent engine options. The base, a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder, makes 203 horsepower and achieves up to 29 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. The heftier 3.5-liter 301 hp V6 has been beefed up from 2018’s 268 hp version; it’s available for the XLE and XSE trims and attains up to 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The driving experience is more enjoyable with this model year’s engineering improvements: 30% more torsional rigidity, an upgraded multilink rear suspension, a lower center of gravity, and stiffer body structure.
An eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard oin all trims. A drive-mode switch with three settings (ECO, Normal, Sport) comes in the XSE and XLE; the sportier SE and XSE trims come with a sport-tuned suspension and paddle shifters for added performance. The LE, SE, and XLE editions have hybrid variants that achieve great gas mileage: 51/53 mpg for the Hybrid LE and 44/47 mpg for the Hybrid SE/XLE.
Technology and Safety
The Entune 3.0 Audio system on the L and LE trims has a 7-inch touchscreen with six speakers, plus Apple CarPlay, a USB media port, Bluetooth compatibility, and Wi-Fi Connect by Verizon, which can connect up to five devices at once. On the higher trims there are numerous upgrades either standard or available on this infotainment system, including an 8-inch touchscreen, additional speakers, and navigation, depending on the trim level. The V6 models come standard with a 10-inch color head-up display, and a wireless charging pad comes in the XLE V6.
With its extensive slate of standard active and passive safety features, the ’19 Camry is one of the safest cars in its segment. Every Camry comes standard with ten advanced airbags and the stellar Toyota Safety Sense technology bundle, which includes adaptive cruise control, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and active lane control.
